By pvcHook from A5OG forum. Remember to check your field rules as this may or may not be legal where you play.

After seeing PrOpHeT's excellent tutorial for WAS board owners, it was pointed out that this mod didn't work on APE boards, due to the length of the button.

Kender pointed out that a small piece of plastic, like the ones found on plastic sprue and trees of model cars would work perfectly on the APE switch. So I went ahead I tried it today, with much success.

As such, I present you a pictorial on performing this mod on your APE board!

I'm no car model enthusiast, but do happen to collect Transformer toys. Case in point, I found a nice small piece of plastic from the sprue of a toy missile that was the perfect size for our little project. As you can see, I already cut a small piece:

To glue the plastic bit to the switch, I used gel-type superglue:

Remove your e-grip from your marker and open it up. We'll need to measure the length of our plastic bit:

Using tweezers, measure the plastic bit's length by dry-fitting it with the APE switch. Sand it or cut it using an x-acto knife so the plastic nub sits flush with the grip:

Once the nub is sanded down to the right size, carefully remove the board from the grip and apply a very small drop of glue on the tip of the switch. Remember, a little goes a long way. Too much glue will overflow and might end up gluing the switch assembly. Definitely not something you want to happen!

In my case, I spread the excess glue all around the post to strengthen the bond between both pieces:

Let it dry for 5-10 minutes, and put everything back together. The end result is a button that looks factory and allows you to change modes with great ease:

Thanks go to PrOpHeT for his original idea and several other people in the thread for pointing out the differences between both boards. Lastly, thanks to Kender for his model car plastic sprue idea!

I did this mod tonight, it worked great and was easy to do. I used a piece off of a pen refill tube. It was almost the exact diameter of the switch button. I can now change modes on the fly. It's the perfect addition to my A5 Rampage board.

Dude, that's awesome! Like Whooper said, simple and effective but not only that, you don't really change anything so if it happens to pop off on the field, no harm done. Just redo it again afterwards and you're back in business.
